SPhotonix, a rising star in data storage technology, has announced the appointment of Gerardo Bertero as an advisor. Gerardo is one of the leading experts in data storage solutions and joins Thomas Coughlin in the
SPhotonix Advisor Group. The appointment comes as the deep tech start-up continues on its growth spurt since launching late 2024.
With over 30 years in the magnetic recording industry and 16 of them in senior management roles at Western Digital, Gerardo has contributed to developing and deploying many magnetic recording technologies including those in production today. Bringing invaluable experience in what makes data storage solutions succeed, his understanding of the industry, technology and economics provides strategic insights and guidance to propel our technological endeavors forward.

Gerardo has delivered many invited talks at conferences, seminars and short courses and has served as chairperson of numerous technical and scientific conferences. He holds a Master of Science and Engineering from Vanderbilt University and a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University alongside over 70 issued US patents and over 70 peer-reviewed publications.
SPhotonix has several new projects in the pipeline that demonstrate the dexterity and applicability of
5D optical device storage as well as
advanced optics. The brand has recently reported on
