SPhotonix joins SNIA to help drive innovation in global data storage solutions
Date:  Thursday 30th October, 2025
Last month, SPhotonix, a fast-paced 5 D optical data storage start-up, joined the world renowned Storage Network Industry Association, better known as SNIA. The global organisation specializes in developing global standards for data technologies as well as delivering education and training. SPhotonix joins a member roster of well recognised brands including Western Digital, IBM, Seagate, Intel among others.

With its groundbreaking FemtoEtch (™) technology that is pioneering the unique use of fused silica for long term data storage, SPhotonix will be supporting SNIA’s work in developing low environmental impact data storage technologies, new compute architecture, and alternative, innovative data storage solutions that meet the rising market demand for data keeping.

Commenting on this development, SPhotonix CEO, Ilya Kazansky said:
“We are here to play an active role in driving data storage innovation forward to meet current and future needs as IoT and AI use levels rocket upwards. Data is now a high value asset to any person or organization or business, with increasing desires and needs to store sustainably. At the same time, we are keen to develop industry standards for such archival data storage solutions so that users are rest assured that their data is protected and preserved according to best practice.

“It’s a great time to join SNIA as global economies and emerging societal norms demand the need for data to be conserved and not easily lost, yet traditional technologies are struggling to keep up with that demand pace. Working with SNIA, we aim to bring change for the greater good across the global data generation and storage markets.”

This announcement comes off the back of two recent appointments to the SPhotonix Advisory Group with two giants in data storage expertise, Thomas Coughlin and Gerardo Bertero. SPhotonix is now scaling to meet interest in its data storage solutions and enterprise data licensing operations.
